Extension for NZ Cert in Offender Management

As a workforce development council (WDC), Toitū te Waiora has been tasked with ensuring industry has a strong voice in making Aotearoa’s workforce fit for today and the future. We need to make sure that industry is heavily involved in decision-making so that when learners enter the workforce, they are equipped with the skills that industry needs…

Among the raft of qualifications we are tasked with reviewing is the New Zealand Certificate in Offender Management, designed to equip frontline staff in prisons with skills including security care and prisoner rehabilitation in New Zealand prisons.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, assessor visits into prisons had to be put on hold, meaning the learners weren’t able to complete a vital part of their coursework. They were in danger of not completing their qualifications within the required timeframe and being sent back to square one, with all their hard work wasted. Fortunately, our team was able to work with NZQA to address this problem, and they agreed to extend the final assessment date to December 2024, allowing the learners to catch up.
It was a win for everyone involved, and we were pleased to be part of the solution.
