A warm welcome to our new GM Disabilities
Monday’s pōwhiri for the new Ohu Mahi General Manager Disabilities, Roger Herangi, was a celebration of hope and aspiration for tāngata whaikaha (the disabled community) throughout Aotearoa. Those at the Wharewaka in Wellington and joining online were left with no doubt about the importance of the new role, which reflects the priority given to tāngata whaikaha as a result of the review of vocational education.

An exciting milestone for tāngata whaikaha
Monday 20 June will mark an important day for tāngata whaikaha – people with disabilities – with the official welcome for the new General Manager Disabilities at Ohu Mahi. Roger Herangi is taking up the role, bringing with him an impressive array of skills and experience, including almost 10 years as a Senior Strategy Advisor at the Ministry of Health.

First Aid refresher courses - COVID-19 grace period
Toitū te Waiora would like to remind first aid providers and employers that there is now a grace period for refresher courses that applies to Unit Standards 6400, 6401 and 6402.
The maximum time allowed between the award of these standards to an individual and their first refresher course is now two years and six months. Likewise, the maximum time allowed between refresher courses is also two years and six months.
People who do not undertake refresher courses in this timeframe will be required to re-take the unit standards.
This grace period will remain in place until further notice.

WDC endorsement required for NZQA programme approvals
We are pleased to share the news that the programme support process is changing in line with our matawhānui to give industry a greater leadership role in the way programmes are developed for community, health, education, and social services qualifications. From the 1st of June, new or redesigned programmes will be endorsed by WDCs.

Expiring New Zealand Certificate in Out of School Care (Level 4) [Ref: 2762]
